Greetings, friends!
Welcome to my first posting. I'm tempted to just dive right into what's on my mind, but I suppose I should follow the example of a television pilot and take a little time to set the scene and introduce the characters.
My love of television and film brought me to Hollywood about four years ago. Its incredible how many different kinds of Starbucks drinks the higher ups can order. It's a symbol of status within the industry. The higher up the food chain someone is, the more complicated their Starbucks drink will be. I've started ordering a Venti Half-Calf No Foam 1% Latte with Nutmeg and Cumin, just so everyone can know I'm on the up and up.
I live in with my lovely girlfriend in Little Armenia, just West of Los Feliz. The area has a lot of charm. The church next door has Armenian polka ragers every Saturday night. There's a little dog in one apartment that is so good at scaring off intruders. He practices on us tenants every time we enter. Thanks for keeping an eye out, Brinks! I'll keep some extra pieces of bacon in my pocket for you.
Currently, I find myself working as an assistant at a boutique management company. I also write in the precious free time I'm able to carve out. In all seriousness, one of my biggest struggles lately is finding the time not just to be creative, but also to relax and allow myself to get into a creative space. Terry Gilliam's Brazil is one of my favorite films, and unfortunately, I find my life heading more and more towards the nightmarish, conveyer belt existence of Sam Lowry.
Our lives in this city are increasingly designed to keep us plugged into this machine. There's a great scene in the film Baraka that shows intersections of cars and pedestrians at very high speeds, so high that we start to look like ants moving about a colony. Each one of those ants has their own loves, fears, triumphs, failures, desires and hopes. But if you step back objectively, humanity is a giant hive. We hope that the few in charge have our best interests at hope.
But its up to me, just like everyone else, to carve out something good that I can contribute to the colony. It's amazing what potential our species has if we truly learn to work together towards the greater good of our planet and our own kind (if you can't tell, I'm Pro-bama).
That's enough from me for now. Ciao for now.
Yay blog! <3
